R. Kelly and “Hollywood Exes” Star Andrea Kelly’s youngest daughter has come forward with her decision to transition from female to male. Internet rumors had been bubbling about the 13-year-old for a number of weeks after she was spotted in male clothing and a short haircut at a red carpet event with her mother, and in family snaps on Drea’s IG. Now Jay, formerly Jaya, has confirmed his “transguy” status via ask.fm. InTouch Weekly reports:
R. Kelly’s 13-year-old child—born as Jaya—has recently come out as transgender and transitioned from female to male.
Now known as Jay, the teen first came out to the public on Instagram recently, but says he has identified as male since he was “6 or 7.”
As of three months ago, Jay said his father was unaware of his new identity, but added his mother—Drea, who stars on the reality series Hollywood Exes—has been extremely supportive.
“[My mom] was like, ‘Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much,’” he wrote on his Ask.fm page, which is a social platform that allows users to answer anonymously submitted questions.
“She was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.’
“And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me.”
Jay goes on to explain that he still has female organs, and wears a binder on his chest, but hopes that with the help of surgery and testosterone he can truly be comfortable in his own skin.
“I believe I am a boy and want surgery, and the medication to help me who I was supposed to be,” Jay explained.
We wonder what ain’t isht daddy R. Kelly has to say about all this…but seeing as how it appears he isn’t too involved with any of his kids (sons, daughters, or otherwise) at this point, we’ll assume his opinion doesn’t matter much.
