Bossip is happy to bring you the eighth installment of the ‘New Black Kids On The Block” Boombox. It’s a chance for us to introduce you to a couple of new and/or independent artists that you may not be too familiar with but might want to check out. This week we have an all male selection of up and coming hip hop and R&B artists. Make sure you peep these guys and tell us what you think!
Lianne La Havas
Lianne La Havas is an English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Growing up in London, La Havas’ first interest in music came from her family. Her mother would listen to artists such as Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige, while her father was a multi-instrumentalist who taught her the basics of how to play the guitar and the keyboard. She wrote her first song at the age of eleven but didn’t learn to play the guitar properly until she was eighteen years old. La Havas decided to launch her own career in music after performing as a backing vocalist for other bands. Subsequently signed to Warner Bros. Records,s he is working on material for her upcoming debut album due early 2012.

Jacob Latimore
15-year old Jacob Latimore possesses vocal talent that spans far beyond his years, proving that age is nothing but a number when it comes to performing. Considering the stage his second home. Jacob relocated to Atlanta in 2007. Immediately going to work, Jacob’s team set up a premiere showcase to introduce him to the Atlanta music scene, executives and tastemakers. In 2010, Jacob, with the help of a viral video performance, caught the eye of RCA Records A&R, Wayne Williams. Members of the RCA staff were also left in awe by his charismatic personality and astonishing voice that instantly answered the question of whether the young teen has star power. Jacob was immediately signed to the label and brought along powerhouse managers Larry Rudolph and Jeremy Geffen.Jacob’s first single “Like ‘Em All” featuring Diggy Simmons and produced by Infinity, is an up-tempo track in which Jacob and Diggy let the girls know that they’re beautiful despite their flaws. Lattimore hopes to release an album by early 2012.

Torae
Torae gained recognition by collaborating with DJ Premier and Marco Polo. He and Polo went on to receive critical acclaim for their collaborative LP entitled Double Barrel. In 2007, Hip Hop DX featured him in their DXNext underground Hip Hop series. In the same year, he was named Chairman’s Choice in XXL. In addition to Polo and Premier, Torae has worked with producers Eric G., Black Milk, and Khrysis. Torae has collaborated frequently with fellow Brooklyn MCs Skyzoo and Sha Stimuli. He has also worked with Tash of The Alkaholiks, Teflon, Chaundon, Sean Price, Masta Ace, Wale and Talib Kweli. Torae will be releasing his upcoming debut offering; For The Record, on his Internal Affairs Entertainment imprint. Slated for release on November 1, 2011 the album is an ample fifteen tracks worth of high-caliber production and impeccable rhyme.

Kayla Dane
Working with two groups (“Solid” & “Bella”) that where both signed and deteriorated Singer/Songwriter/Self-Taught Designer Kayla has re-ignited her musical passion to deliver the world great hits she was put on this earth to circulate. She began singing in church at the age of 6, and due to a few minor bumps and stumbles her return to music has been a long awaited and an amazing journey. Spending the last three years growing her wings and finding herself she has had the opportunity to work with heavyweights such as Rick Ross, Letoya Luckett, DJ Don Cannon, The OMG Girlz, T.I, Yo Gotti, Rodney Jerkins, Rafael Saadiq, Polow Da Don and Pharrell. While Kayla switches the gear in drive on a 2012 “Untitled” album release, The DJ Don Cannon produced “Fun in the World” is one of the first rose petals she is dropping to leave a trail.
