Single and ready to mingle but you live in the wackest city for dating??
Check out the list below for 10 of the best cities in America for unattached Black folks…and let us know if you agree.
Chicago
The city President Barack Obama calls home has almost 50 colleges, universities and professional institutes making it a magnet for black singles. The black community in Chicago is entrenched and close knit–the Chicago Defender, the city’s black-owned newspaper, is the only black daily in the nation.
Chicago’s convention and trade show center and its sporting events like Bulls and Bears games, attract many more singles. Chicago is great for concerts, including blues, jazz, R&B or classical. On any given day, you’ll find a show somewhere in the city, along with a lot of single blacks in attendance.
Atlanta
If you can get past all the posers, “fake ballers”, downlow brothers, and stripper hoes then Atlanta is one of the best cities in America for AA singles. Here’s what “they say” about dating in ATL:
In Atlanta, or “Hot Lanta” as it’s often called, the number of black women slightly outnumber men, but the city is teeming with professional black men and women–439 of the Fortune 500 companies are based here. It’s not unusual to see many well-heeled black singles behind the wheels of BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes and Lexuses.
Atlanta is home to several historically black colleges and universities, including Clark, Morris Brown, the all-male Morehouse College and all-female Spelman College.
You’ll find a lot of singles working out at the Downtown Athletic Club. In Buckhead, a chic area north of downtown, check out the cafes, stores and clubs where black singles congregate. On weekends, singles troll Lenox Mall to shop–not just for clothes, but also for that special someone
Dallas
Thousands of Black college graduates are ascending on the DFW area in search of new careers and new lives. Dallas’ diverse economy is attracting young graduates and professionals from all over the country. Everyday they arrive, most taking residence in the plentiful luxury apartments across the region in North Dallas, the northern suburbs, mid-cities, and the suburbs south of the city. These black professionals are poised to join the ranks of Dallas’ expanding Black middle-class.
Houston
Houston is a culturally driven city with much to offer residents in terms of a booming economy, low cost of living and popular tourist attractions. Not to mention, Houston’s metropolitan area boasts racial diversity. According to Visit Houston, there are no racial or ethnic groups that constitute a majority of the city’s regional population. Due to the ethnic diversity and quality of living, Black singles may find that Houston has some of the youngest populations in the country, making the dating pool wide and diverse. Newly relocated singles 25 and up in the midst of planning their future, might find that Houston’s cost of living is ideal and nightlife scene vibrant, making it an appropriate city for dating on a budget.
Philadelphia
The city of Brotherly Love shows mad love for the sistas:
Philadelphia, home of the ’97 Million Woman March, is a city worth considering for Sisters who seek the pulse of an urban locale. With nearly 40 percent of its population made up of Black residents, there are plenty of activities and sites geared to culture-hungry African-Americans, including African-American festivals and historic monuments…
San Diego
In San Diego, single black men actually outnumber black women. There are 100 eligible black men between the ages of 18 and 34 for every 57 single black woman. The large cachet of black men can be attributed to military, government and industry positions, as well as a bevy of African and Caribbean men. Check out the officers’ parties where many of the single military officers are found. Single women frequent the art gallery openings. San Diego is close to Los Angeles and the Mexican border–the beach and the mountains are nearby and there are a ton of activities to keep singles occupied.
Washington DC
Dubbed the “Chocolate City,” due to its high African-American population, D.C. is not only home to the U.S. government and top Fortune 500 companies, but also a booming health industry and prominent historically black educational districts. These institutions help to create stronger middle to elite social classes, as well as make it possible for the young and goal-oriented to climb the corporate ladder. In D.C, Black people make up more than one-third of the general population, so the city’s Black entrepreneur efforts are not surprising. Singles seeking to cultivate financial wealth and build culturally aware families will find other Black people in the area with the same desire, background and drive.
New York
Here’s what “they say”:
The New York metro area has by far the largest number of African-Americans — over 3 million…Despite a recession and high unemployment New York City still meets all the criteria of a great city for singles. We’re talking world-class nightlife, culture and, yes, jobs, which often means lost of eligible bachelors.
Brooklyn and Harlem boast some of the most concentrated enclaves of African-Americans and Afro Caribbeans. And there’s a guy for every taste—from suit and tie banker types to athletes, boho artsy and hipsters.
