RHOP‘s Ashley Darby honored Roberta Flack with a morning show performance of “Killing Me Softly With His Song” that left fans flabbergasted and eviscerating her vocals. At her live show, Ashley addressed social media slamming her performance and tried the song once again. We prayed that she would finish… but she just kept right onnnnn!

If you’re wondering why Ashley tackled one of the late singer’s legendary songs, that’s just the beginning. The reality star appeared on Fox 5 DC April 3 to promote her sold-out show that promised to “captivate the audience with a heartfelt selection of songs, including tributes to the legendary Roberta Flack.” Even setting the show at Mr. Henry’s DC was an homage to the Grammy winner… for some reason.

“I am beyond words excited for my first exhibition at the legendary Mr. Henry’s, where THE Roberta Flack was discovered!” Ashley wrote.

Social Media Drags Ashley Darby’s Fox5 Performance Of “Killing Me Softly”

The timing makes sense after Flack passed away on Feb. 24, 2025 at the age of 88 after an ALS diagnosis in 2022. However, once Ashley’s attempt at one of beloved singer’s biggest songs went viral, the comments were not on her side. Many people envied the confidence (and “delusion”) it took Ashley to perform this on live TV. Others wondered who asked for this in the first place.

Even the sax player was seemingly side-eyeing the Bravo baddie.

The GnA co-founder’s castmate Karen Huger is facing some time behind bars, but some comments claim the real criminals are Ashley and whoever booked her to sing. Yikes on mics!

The internet begged for the Flack estate to send a cease and desist, but nothing stopped Ashley’s ambitions.

On the big night, the mom of two addressed the dragging she received online and doubled down with another performance of “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”

Hit the flip to see what Ashley Darby said about not doing justice to Roberta Flack and how her exhibition really went down.

On Saturday, Ashley Darby hit the stage at Mr. Henry’s DC and addressed the tone-deaf elephant in the room. The TV veteran admitted that she botched the ballad, but implied someone else is responsible. Suuuuure, sis!

She also hinted that auditory assault wasn’t actually as bad as it sounded in the viral videos. Mind you, the footage someone seemed to capture from a cellphone in the TV studio sounded the same. Who are you going to believe, Ashley or your lying ears?

“You know I visited my friends at Fox5 and I’m not going to blame anybody else, even if some blame should be distributed. I will not do that! I will say that we did NOT do justice. At least what came out on the TV did not do justice to this incredible musician, Roberta Flack,” she admitted.

With all that said, did she drop the mic and let Ms. Flack rest in peace? No! Ashley already had a sold-out crowd, a live band booked, and RHOP redemption on the line. Did she actually stand on business or botch the ballad? You be the judge!

Well, at least Ashley had gowns! Beautiful gowns! And the event was for a good cause, to benefit the House of Ruth.

Some social media users gave Ashley credit for doing better than the TV performance, but did it take much? Several others considered the encore doubly disrespectful to the classic song.

For those asking when Ashley will stop singing, it won’t be anytime soon. She told Bravo TV that she’s just getting started. “There are many more things I’m working on, so if you missed this one, best believe there will be many more.”

Hopefully those other things in the pipeline lean into more of Ashley’s talents like throwing shade and competing in pageants.
