A Progression Of Rihanna And A$AP Rocky's Relationship

While the internet is still reeling from Rih and A$AP’s big baby news, we can’t help but think that we saw this one coming. The two have been inseparable since A$AP’s public confirmation of the coupledom last May. Preggo RihRih rumors have been swirling for months, but the bad gal doesn’t give fans much more than crumbs when responding to such allegations.

Now that the Bajan Baddie and her Harlem rap star lover have revealed the celebrity seed on the way, a source tells PEOPLE that Rih is elated.

.”She couldn’t be happier and is so excited to be a mom,” the source said. “She’s loving all the changes to her body during pregnancy and has always celebrated pregnant women in her runway shows for Fenty.”

Now, let’s take a look back at A$AP Rocky anc Rih’s love story started.

September 2012: A$AP Rocky Hops On “Cockiness” Remix

Rihanna drops Talk That Talk including singles “Love Song”, “Cake”, and “Cockiness”.  Rih enlists the help of A$AP Rocky for the “Cockiness” remix and they performed a steamy stage set (“as friends”) at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6, 2012.

Remember when A$AP grabbed a handful of Rih’s cakes at the end?

March 2018: Rocky Joins Diamonds World Tour As Opener

Following the performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, The Diamonds World Tour was announced in support of Rih’s seventh studio album, Unapologetic. The “Peso” rapper joined as an opener for her North American leg of the tour. The pair still seemed to be keeping it platonic, but the relationship was blooming.

September 2013: Rihanna As Leading Lady In A$AP’s “Fashion Killa” Video

After denying an intimate relationship in April, Rocky called on Rihanna to star in his new video for “Fashion Killa.” He previously told MTV;

“That’s really a friend. She supports me, man. She’s bringing me out, she ain’t have to do that. That girl came to my Coachella a year ago. I got nothing but love for Rih Rih; that’s the homey right there. I ain’t tryin’ to get in no trouble with no Rihanna rumors.”

However, they appeared to have unquestionable chemistry in the video. While appearing on 106 & Park he was asked why he chose Rih for this particular video and the rapper said;

“She’s a fashion killa in my eyes. I respect her jigginess. I respect her fashion sense.”

“The chemistry was just organic. We were cool, we were chilling, it was whatever. We were faded. We were having fun.”

June 2018: Lovey Dovey At Paris Fashion Week

While it may have been some time since major speculation of them dating, the two were seen together canoodling at Paris Fashion week. This came after the breakup between A$AP and model Chanel Iman and amid talks of Rihanna’s swirl with Saudi heir Hassan Jameel.  

The pop princess not only had a Saudi Arabian billionaire and was building a billion-dollar cosmetics company herself, but she also had A$AP Rocky…there, front row at a Louis Vuitton show.

September 2018: Rocky Attends Rihanna’s Diamond Ball

The swanky annual event held in NYC was attended by many celebrities. One of which was…you guessed it…A$AP Rocky.  Pretty Boy Flacko showed up in support of his now long-time “friend” Rihanna. Rihanna’s foundation helps raise funds for global health and education programs.

December 2019: The Pair Pose Together at British Fashion Awards In London

RihRih posted her “platonic friend” Rocky with an Instagram caption which read;

“And thank you @asaprocky for representing us on the carpet and always being so supportive of @Fenty !!”

December 2019: Rihanna Pulls Up To Stockholm Concert

This time the rapper was joined by his beauty mogul booski in Sweden, where he performed at his Stockholm stop. RihRih was spotted looking every bit of gorgeous and every bit of comfortable.

July 2020: Beautifully Black Fenty Skin Campaign

Now, we all know that Rocky and Rihanna are uniquely attractive people, but their good looks were placed widely on display when Rihanna recruited A$AP for her summer Fenty Skin campaign.

She also teased Fenty Skin with Rocky via mini Vlogs shot for GQ and Vogue.

“Men love their skin, and they take care of it, but they feel obligated almost to only use products that are for men because anything beyond that feels too feminine, it’s not for them, they’re not allowed, they don’t have permission,” said Rihanna.

Rocky shared his own sentiment, stating,

“I had to discover face cleansing and skincare all at the same time when I was a young buck in the shower,” he said. “You can’t wash your body with the same rag you wash your face with. I was lucky enough to be the type of guy that wants to wash my face.”

The two friends broke the net with jaw-dropping selects from the campaign.

November 2020: PEOPLE Magazine Outs Secret Relationship

An anonymous source close to the two celebs shared word of the romantic relationship being official with PEOPLE, but it wasn’t confirmed by either party.

December 2020: Baecation In Barbados

While on an iintimate holiday getaway, the couple enjoyed jet skiing, romantic dinner dates, local Bajan catering, and a enjoyed a PDA-filled private boat ride.

May 2021: A$AP Confirms Relationship Status

In an interview with GQ, A$AP Rocky formally confirmed his relationship with Rihanna and left no questions about his feelings for the pop star.

Not only did he refer to her as “his lady, “the one” and the “love of his life”, but he also spilled about their summer-long Great American road trip which allegedly led to strengthening their bond and Rocky’s realization that he wanted to be with her.

“Being able to drive and do a tour without feeling like it was an occupation or an obligated job agreement, I feel like that experience is like none other,” Rocky recalled. “I never experienced nothing like it.”

He also hinted at future plans, stating “I think I’d be an incredible, remarkably, overall amazing dad,” he told GQ. “I would have a very fly child. Very.”

September 2021: Coupled Up Red Carpet Debut At The Met Gala

The 2021 Met Gala was “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion”. While the execution from many may have been unclear, the vibe between Rihanna and Rocky was NOT! There was no question the pair arrived as a couple as they made their way down the carpet. They even waited till the carpet closed to really make an entrance.

The Fenty beauty founder wore all black Balenciaga while her rapper beaux rocked a patterned multicolored quilt designed by ERL.

It was the first time Bad Gal Ri made an official public appearance with a man since the 2013 Grammy Awards.

We love a private queen.

January 2022: The Couple Reveal First Pregnancy

In late January, the couple revealed via social media that they were expecting their first child together and oversized pink puffer jackets and caramel-complected baby bumps swarmed our timelines. Back in March of 2020, Rihanna told British Vogue that she planned to have “three or four” kids in the next 10 years, even if she didn’t have a partner. Looks like she found the right one just in time to get started. We surely cannot wait to see this adorable little human. Congrats to the parents!
