Formerly On The Run: Southwest Mook Talks 14 Days Before Turning Herself In…

Southwest Mook, a raptress from The D has been buzzing for her bars and over her upcoming jail time. Trouble found the rapper back in 2014 when Mook survived a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. At the time she was a fugitive and spent part of her recovery time handcuffed to a hospital bed before being transferred to the slammer. Mook bonded out of jail and released a mixtape “Free Gas”, garnering the attention of artists, producers and label execs like Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd, Mike Will Made It, DJ Kay Slay, Mike Epps and P of Quality Control…etc.

BOSSIP speaks to Southwest Mook exclusively just 14 days before she turns herself in for her sentence on how she plans to turn her unfortunate situation into a positive.

B: Can you explain briefly why you’re turning yourself into prison in 14 days?

SM: Cause I got into a police chase & had drugs on me.

B: How long is your sentence?

SM: 3 years – 20 years

B: How are you mentally preparing for the day you have to turn yourself in? Are there any rituals you’re using to get your mind right?

SM: Yes everyday I tell myself I came a long way if these things didn’t happen I prolly would have still been in the game I would have never took rapping more seriously I prolly would have been dead or caught up on a bigger case. But I have big things to look forward to when I come home so I’m cool

B: Are you still living in Detroit? How has your family reacted to your past criminal history?

SM: Yes I’m currently in Detroit prior to being on the run I sold my house and I got caught so now I’m at my aunts til I go in.. my family has criminal history so it’s like the norm but by me bein in these positions for a better life it’s kinda hard on everyone but some of them was playing me before these positions so you know how that go

B: How do you plan to turn this into a positive?

SM: I plan on working on my mind my body my talent I wanna talk to younger ppl that feels like my friends from the hood feels some feel it’s no way out n just totally get swallowed I wanna show them we can do it no matter if your parents on drugs n your from an area that’s like poverty we can get out my main goal!
