Mike Dobson Said Life With Soul Singer Was Hell; Demands Prenup Be Thrown Out

Jill Scott’s estranged husband said the singer’s alleged bullying and humiliation of him began even before they got hitched.

Mike Dobson wrote in court papers that three weeks before his wedding, Scott and her lawyer pressured him to sign a prenup they drafted. He said he didn’t have a lawyer and felt coerced, but did so because he loved Scott.

Dobson is firing back on Scott’s surprise 2017 divorce complaint, countersuing the singer and demanding their prenup declared invalid and their marital assets split down the middle.

The estranged husband said the prenup isn’t legal not only because he signed it under duress and without a lawyer, but also because Scott violated the agreement’s confidentiality clause by speaking to the media about the divorce.

Dobson said he’s entitled to half of their marital assets, plus $500,000 for the pain and suffering he allegedly endured during and after their year-long union.

“To (Scott), marriage is a matter of trivial convenience at best and a dispensable annoyance at worst, evidenced by the lightness, dismissiveness, and dehumanization,” Dobson’s countersuit reads. “(Scott) never attempted to salvage the marriage, which she strenuously endeavored to destroy.”

Scott and Dobson married in June 2017, and but Scott filed for divorce just 15 months later. They have no children.

Earlier this month, Dobson countersued the “Golden” singer for irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct, alleging Scott was a monster wife who routinely tried to use money to control and silence him, treated him like the help and alienated him from his family and friends. Scott would accused him of stealing stuff she’d eventually find and even went on “dates” with “intimate male friends,” Scott’s scorned ex wrote in court papers. And Dobson said Scott was known for emasculating the men in her life, referring to her son as “pretty” instead of “handsome.”

Despite the alleged red flags, the husband said he wanted to make the marriage work and and they attended relationship counseling. But Dobson said out of the blue he came home to find Scott had changed the locks and packed his stuff in boxes in the garage.

Dobson said Scott’s alleged campaign of intimidation didn’t end after they split. He said that Scott has since spread his mugshot among their social circle and accused him of being gay, violent, jobless, unstable and a con artist.

He said the stress of the divorce and Scott’s alleged trash talking triggered a “severe depression,” damaged his reputation, caused mental anguish and he is now in “intensive therapeutic treatment.”

“(Scott) has acted and continue to act categorically and diametrically the opposite of her contractual duty of good faith and fair dealing under the marriage contract,” the husband’s court docs state. “As a result of her unspeakable actions, Dobson has suffered and continues to suffer from her malignant schemes.”

Dobson said he wants $500,000, half of their assets, Scott to pay his lawyer’s fees, the prenup tossed and for Scott to stop speaking about him in the press.

“Dobson has been a model of honesty and integrity,” his counter complaint states. “He loved and committed himself to (Scott) fully and unconditionally and gave her and her family his entire all. In return, Dobson has been treated with nothing but trivialization and alienation.”

A judge has yet to rule on the divorce.
