The Libya Slave Trade Explained

A few weeks ago, CNN was tipped off to the fact that there was a slave trade going on in Libya. The company sent a few reporters and they uncovered something terribly disturbing: thousands of Africans are getting captured and sold into slavery for just hundreds of dollars. The story has captivated the internet to the point of many desperately trying to figure out a solution.

So we’re here to break down the story and all you need to know and how you can help. This is a sad, tragic situation and it’s time something is done.

Here’s how it’s starting: thousands of refugees are crossing the Libyan border to try to get to Europe for better lives. There’s been a recent crackdown on refugees and fewer boats are making it out. Human smugglers are in turn selling extra passengers off in auctions.

The refugees are abused, violated and exploited.
