Israel Houghton Accused Of Siring Two Sons Outside Of His 20 Year Marriage
UPDATE: Israel Houghton’s attorney said he has been financially supporting the two children since they were born, and hasn’t yet been served with the suit because he is on tour.
“The Real’s” Adrienne Bailon may want to think twice before tying the knot with her fiancé, former Joel Osteen megachurch preacher Israel Houghton.
The Texas State Attorney General’s Child Support Division has sued the gospel singer to determine how much he should pay for the upkeep of the two love children he allegedly fathered while still married to his wife of two decades, BOSSIP has learned.
The attorney general demanded in court papers recently that the court figure out whether both back and current child support for the two sons, Kingston, 4 and Khristian, 2, as well as medical expenses and health insurance, needs to be paid.
The state wants Houghton come up with his tax returns, checking and savings accounts statements, 401K info, proof of health insurance coverage and income history so that the court can figure out how much he owes. And if Houghton doesn’t play ball, the attorney general’s office said it’s not above garnishing the man’s wages to pay for the children’s needs.
Texas’ top cop’s office said the 45-year-old Houghton has already admitted that he is the father of the older boy, Kingston – and filed an acknowledgement of paternity that Houghton purportedly signed as part of the petition. But the attorney general said the courts have to determine whether he is the father of Khristian. Both kids have Houghton’s last name, according to the lawsuit.
Based on the two kids ages, the tots were born while Houghton was still married to his now ex-wife, Meleasa. The pair were together for 20 years and have three kids. Houghton announced their split earlier this year on Facebook. Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church put the religious leader on “indefinite leave” following the revelations.
The children’s mother, De Vawn Moreno, 31, is listed as cooperating in the lawsuit, and the two kids currently live with her in a suburb of Houston. We’ve reached out to her for comment.
However, the courts have had trouble officially serving Houghton with the lawsuit, because he said he’s been out of town and won’t be back until after next month, according to the court papers.
A spokeswoman for the Texas Attorney General declined to comment on the case.
Houghton and Bailon just hosted their wedding shower in California, and are set to get hitched next month. The couple announced their engagement after only six months together, though it’s not clear if Bailon knew about the alleged love children, or whether the revelations will effect their wedding plans.
Houghton is due to appear in Harris County Court in December to answer the allegations. If he doesn’t show up, the judge may issue a default order. We’ve reached out to him for comment.
