Black cartoon shows are an underrated part of modern pop culture that pushed boundaries, battled stereotypes with slick humor and sprinkled valuable life lessons on kids at a time when animated Black and brown faces were scarce (and often missing) on Saturday mornings.
Hit the flip for a complete list of Black cartoon shows we NEED on Netflix ASAP.
Hammerman
MC Hammer was the biggest rapper of the ’90s who starred in his very own animated show where he fought crime with magical church shoes. No, seriously, this happened and it was amazing.

The Adult Swim classic punched society in the face with hilarious cultural commentary and brilliant satire that will certainly be relevant forever. (Netflix is actually removing the series despite an outcry from fans)

Osmosis Jones
This technically isn’t a show but the action-adventure flick about a white blood cell policeman (voiced by Chris Rock) battling a deadly virus is a lovable cult classic.
Kid ‘n Play
The funky fresh animated series was based on the real-life Hip-Hop duo and stressed healthy friendships and making good decisions.
Waynehead
The hit WB series centered around Damien “Damey” Wayne (WAYNEHEAD) and his club foot in the roughest (and funniest) corner of NYC.
