Law Firm Sued Lil Wayne For $81K In Legal Fees; Rapper Said He Owes Nothing
Lil Wayne has fired back against lawyers who claim he stiffed them out of nearly $81,000 in legal fees, saying they overcharged him and he’s already paid them enough money.
Miami law firm Garbett, Allen & Roza P.A. sued Wayne last October, claiming he never paid them for defending him when an airplane company sued him for not paying it back for using it’s private jets for three years.
The lawyers said Wayne orally agreed to their legal contract last year, and the attorneys mounted the father of four’s defense. Lil Wayne ultimately lost the case, and a judge ordered him to pay the jet company $2 million.
But the lawyers said Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., never paid them either, and have asked the court to force him to pay them back, plus interest.
In their filing, the firm said Wayne now owes them $80,682 in legal fees, and besides a $12,000 retainer Wayne paid when he hired them, the lawyers said they haven’t seen a dime.
But Wayne fired back last week in court docs obtained by BOSSIP, where he contends that the lawyer’s overcharged him royally, and there’s no way that he owes them $81,000. The rapper said in court papers that he already paid them enough and NEVER agreed to cough up extra dough.
“Plaintiff’s claims are barred…in light of the fact that among other things, the amount alleged to be owed exceeds the fair, equitable, and/or reasonable value of goods and/or services received,” Wayne said Jan. 22 in docs filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
The law firm wants their money, plus interest. The case is expected to head to trial later this year.
